When to call

Common dental emergencies

  • Severe toothache

Pain that will not settle, wakes you at night or flares with hot and cold often means the nerve of the tooth is affected.

    Restorative dentistry and endodontics
  • Broken or chipped tooth

Keep the broken piece if you have it and get in touch as soon as you can, especially if the tooth is sharp or sensitive.

    Restorative dentistry and endodontics
  • Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown and do not try to glue it back yourself. The tooth will be more sensitive until it is treated, so avoid chewing on that side.

    Prosthodontics
  • Swelling or abscess

Swelling of the gum or face can be a sign of infection that should be seen as soon as possible.

    Oral surgery
  • Knocked-out tooth

Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root, keep it in milk or in your mouth against the cheek, and call us straight away: time matters.

    Oral surgery
  • Wisdom tooth pain

Pain and swelling behind the back teeth often come from a wisdom tooth that is coming through or inflamed.

    Oral surgery
  • A child with toothache

With children it is important to act quickly, even when it is a baby tooth.
