Dental implants

A dental implant replaces the root of a tooth and carries a crown. It allows a tooth to be replaced without reshaping the neighbouring teeth.

About the treatment

Placing an implant requires thorough diagnostics beforehand, including an examination and an X-ray, so that the quantity and quality of bone can be assessed. Placement is carried out under local anaesthetic. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, the restoration is made and fitted.

The information on this page is general in nature. What is right for you is decided after an examination and a conversation with your dentist.

Common questions

Patient questions

Did not find your answer? Send us your question.

Is placing an implant painful?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so pain during placement itself is rare. Some discomfort for a few days afterwards is possible and is usually managed with ordinary painkillers.

How long does the whole process take?

That depends on the condition of the bone and the type of restoration. You receive an outline timescale after the diagnostics.

Can anyone have an implant?

Most adult patients can, but the decision is made after an examination and with your general health taken into account.
