Prevention and hygiene

A healthy smile is easiest to keep when you look after it in good time. Regular check-ups mean changes are spotted early, while they are still simple to treat.

About the treatment

A preventive examination covers a thorough check of the teeth, gums and the lining of the mouth. Where needed we carry out professional scaling and stain removal, polishing and fluoride treatment, and at the end of the visit you receive advice for care at home, tailored to your habits.

The information on this page is general in nature. What is right for you is decided after an examination and a conversation with your dentist.

Patient questions

Did not find your answer? Send us your question.

How often should I come for a check-up?

For most patients a check-up every six months is recommended. After your examination your dentist will suggest the interval that suits the condition of your teeth and gums.

Is scaling painful?

Most patients describe the treatment as uncomfortable rather than painful. For sensitive teeth a local anaesthetic or anaesthetic gel can be used.

Can I come just for a cleaning?

Yes. A short examination always comes first, so that the treatment is safe and suited to you.
